It’s only January 6th. 12th night has not yet fallen, people in Latin America are still waiting for their presents, New Year’s resolutions have yet to be broken, but some people working in financial services in London have already shifted into new jobs in 2014.

Based upon recent changes to the London Financial Conduct Authority’s Register of Individuals, here’s who’s started at a new bank in the past six days. Ok, the timing might be a little off – many of these people will have landed their new jobs in November and December and only been registered with the FCA in January – but the fact remains that banks have been hiring.

Moreover, senior people who’ve moved jobs at this time of the year (just before bonuses are paid) are likely to have secured generous guaranteed payments from their new employers.

1. Barclays Investment Bank hired Christopher Kololian from Liberum Capital

Liberum Capital did some busy hiring last year, poaching an entire team of corporate brokers from Espirito Santo,  plus a few people from UBS.  This hasn’t stopped Christopher Kololian, a corporate financier focused on metals and mining, from quitting the boutique firm and heading for the security of Barclays. Kolokian was registered at the British bank on New Year’s Eve, which we’re just about counting as 2014.

2. BNP Paribas hired Charles Manning from SocGen

BNP Paribas’ Corporate and Investment Bank has a few cost issues, but is still hiring in select areas. It just hired Charles Manning from SocGen for its equity finance business in London.

3. Morgan Stanley hired Alok Modi from Barclays Investment bank

Morgan Stanley is restructuring its fixed income business and has pulled back from its more ambitious plans for fixed income sales and trading. However, the US bank still seems to be making big hires in Europe. On January 2nd it registered Alok Modi, formerly of Barclays, who joins as head of government bond and CDS trading for Europe.

4. Morgan Stanley hired Leo Wouters from Credit Agricole

2013 was a big year for high yield hiring and high yield issuance. Morgan Stanley seems to be hoping for a continuation of the revenue trend in 2014. It’s just hired Leo Wouters, a director in high yield from Credit Agricole. Wouters registered with Morgan Stanley on January 2nd, having been with the French bank for less than 12 months.

5. UBS hired Hugh Man from Deutsche Bank

UBS has let it be known that it wants to recruit 24 senior bankers in IBD this year. Accordingly, it’s registered Hugh Man, a senior Financial Institutions Group (FIG) banker from Deutsche Bank on January 2nd.
