If you want to get ahead of the competition in your job search, it’s worth knowing which firms are new to the City of London and likely to be expanding. Corporate finance boutique IMAS has tracked the Financial Conduct Authority throughout the month of July. Here are the more interesting firms that have kick-started their operations.
Edgecrest Capital
Edgecrest has a small team in London, but has big plans for expansion globally. It’s a boutique securities firm headquartered in Canada formed September last year by veteran mining banker David Beatty. The London office is run by Dan Vickerman, who was previously co-head of Candadian sales at Canaccord Genuity and has plans to hire more people having gained FCA approval in July.
Ledbury Partners
Headed by veteran manager Michael Alsalem, Ledbury Partners is one of the more significant European hedge fund launches of 2014, backed as it is by New York investment group Protégé Partners. It’s only just received its FCA authorisation, but already has four staff in place including Chude Chidi-Ofong, the former head of operations at Eton Park Capital Management, as chief operating officer, Timothee De Mierry as an investment analyst and Kevin John Packford as head of business development.
LTW Capital Partners
Nabil Kobeissi, a former executive director at Goldman Sachs, is chief investment officer of this hedge fund along with Yasmine Hayek Kobeissi who is also a quant strategist. It describes itself as an ‘alternative investment fund manager’ currently seeking to establish a Cayman Islands investment structure, but has just been given the thumbs up in the UK. Banking and hedge fund veteran Wayne Landing takes the role of COO.
Trench Capital Partners
Set up by distressed products experts Antoine Barbara and Robert Southey, Trench Capital has just received the go ahead by the FCA. So far, they are the only members of the team, but their website suggests that they’re interested in expanding, requesting applications from people with leveraged finance experience, distressed credit and claims trading professionals, dealmakers and private equity professionals.
Volpe Capital Management
A macro hedge fund focused on equities, fixed income currencies and commodities, Volpe Capital is led by Jonathan Dimitry, the former trading manager of Glencore’s Singapore operation and ex-prop trader at Goldman Sachs. Paul Feldman, the former CFO of Andurand Capital Management, has signed up as COO, but they are the only FCA registered employees so far.
